Heartmate II

Intended for patients with end stage heart failure.
The HeartMate II is one of several new LVAD devices. It is designed to last longer with the simplicity of only one moving part. It is also much lighter and quieter than its predecessors. One of the major differences is the rotary action which creates a constant flow of blood instead of the pumping action created by the HeartmateXUE.

These features increase the durability while potentially decreasing complications of operation.
A rotor suspended by a magnet, spins by an electric current passing through its housing. Similar to the HeartmateXUE, the Heartmate II is made of a smooth titanium and takes blood from the left ventricle and pumps it into the aorta.
